Atom is a quad skating brand, and at Skate Guru it covers two things: urethane wheels, and the complete Atom Jackson quad roller skates that are built on figure-style boots. Nothing in the range is for ice, and nothing is inline — it is four wheels on a plate throughout.
What the range splits into
- Pulse outdoor wheels — Pulse at 65mm x 37mm, Pulse Lite at 62mm x 33mm and Pulse Glitter at 65mm x 37mm, all in a soft 78a urethane meant for pavement.
- Poison derby wheels — hybrid urethane sold in packs of four: Poison Savant at 59mm x 38mm, Poison at 62mm x 38mm and a wider 62mm x 44mm.
- Color runs — the Savant carries the widest choice, in blue, green, pink, purple, red and smoke.
- Complete quads — the Vibe JR1710 and JR1711 on lime Pulse Lite wheels, the Vista JR3210 on a Viper nylon plate, and the nylon-plate Finesse JR1054 in four colors.
Shop the wheels by surface in outdoor wheels or by discipline in derby quad wheels, and find the complete pairs in women’s and girls’ quad skates.

Choosing between the Atom lines
The Atom range at Skate Guru splits cleanly, and the choice is usually made before you look at colours.
- Pulse or Pulse Lite. Both are the same soft 78a outdoor urethane, so grip is not the variable — size is. The full Pulse is the taller, wider wheel and gives a more planted, faster-rolling ride. Pulse Lite is narrower and shorter, which lowers the plate, cuts rotating weight and makes the skate turn more readily. Heavier skaters and long straight paths favour the full Pulse; smaller skaters and tight, technical outdoor skating favour the Lite.
- Pulse Glitter. Same compound and same dimensions as the full Pulse, with the glitter through the urethane rather than on it, so the finish does not wear off. Choose it on looks, not on performance.
- Poison or Poison Savant. Both are hybrid derby urethane. The Savant is the shorter wheel, which sits the skater lower and gets moving quickly; the standard Poison runs taller and holds speed better once up. The width choice within the Poison line is the bigger lever — the wider option gives a noticeably more stable platform on the track.
What “hybrid” is solving
A derby league does not skate on one floor. Sport-hall wood, sealed concrete, painted lines and a venue that polished the surface that morning all behave differently, and a compound picked for one of them is wrong on the next. Hybrid urethane is a deliberate compromise: enough grip to hold a line on a slick floor, enough release to let the skate slide when you ask for it. If you skate on one known surface every week you can specialise; if you skate wherever the league books, the hybrid is why this line exists.
Fitting Atom wheels to a skate you already own
Wheels are the easiest component to change and the easiest to get wrong on paper. Before ordering, check that the plate has clearance in the wheel wells for the width you are moving to, and confirm the axle diameter matches. The derby wheels are sold in packs of four and a quad skate takes eight, so a full set is two packs — and it is worth starting with eight identical wheels rather than mixing compounds, which is a technique rather than a saving. The Atom Jackson complete quads arrive already set up on Atom wheels, so if you are buying a first pair the decision is made for you and the wheels become an upgrade later.
To see the wheels grouped by size and compound, browse quad skate wheels, or go straight to the hybrid wheels if one set has to cover both indoor and outdoor sessions. Outdoor and derby skating both put you on the ground sooner or later, so padded shorts are a sensible thing to add to the order.
