Description
The Classic SoftSkate 380 is the warm, heavily padded beginner figure skate in Jackson Ultima’s Classic line, and this is the mint one — part of what Jackson calls its colored SoftSkate 380 line, where the upper is colored through rather than a white boot given a colored collar.
The mint carries into the boot: mint uppers, mint laces and a mint interior, with a thick roll of light gray fleece at the ankle and the SoftSkate 380 script in gray on the tongue. The padding buys comfort from the first try-on and warmth through a cold session, not stiffness for jumping. Jackson rates the 380 Medium Recreational Support, the tier it names for beginners and skaters commencing lessons and leaves off its numbered 2–90 scale.
Key details
- Support: Medium Recreational Support — learn-to-skate and public sessions rather than jumps and spins; see our guide to support levels.
- Uppers: reinforced vinyl for strength and durability.
- Warmth: a thick soft padded roll collar over a padded covered tongue — support and warmth without a stiff boot.
- Lacing: a full row of white eyelets finishing in four white hooks a side, so the ankle tightens last.
- Outsole: no-maintenance PVC in dark gray with a stacked-look heel, where the white 380s use Jackson’s antique tan.
- Blade: Ultima Mark I with a toe pick, riveted to the sole — plain brushed steel here, where the white 380s carry the white-coated version.
Which SoftSkate 380?
The four colorways are separate listings and do not all cover the same feet:
- Mint — this skate: the colored boot on a gray sole, women’s 4–10 only.
- White/Fleece — all-white boot, white fleece collar, antique tan sole; toddler 8 to women’s 10.
- White/Pink — white boot with a pink fleece collar and pink tongue script; toddler 8 to women’s 10.
- White/Purple — white boot with a lilac fleece collar; youth 11 to women’s 10, no toddler sizes.
Not to be confused with the SoftSkate JS180: same soft collar and Mark I, but a white PVC outsole with a gray wrap and chrome hooks.
Fit and sizing
This listing is one model number: JC380, women’s 4–10, which the size menu labels Adult. Full sizes only, one width: M, the fitting Jackson publishes across the Classic line. Jackson builds mint in adult sizes only, so a smaller foot needs one of the white colorways. All seven sizes are made; the menu shows what is in stock.
Skate sizes are not shoe sizes. Measure heel to longest toe and around the ball of the foot, then read both columns below; between two lengths take the larger. Only one width is made, so a foot well outside the M girth needs a Jackson family sold in several widths. Inches first, cm in brackets; the full Jackson Ultima sizing chart has every size and width.
| Adult size (JC380) | Foot length, in (cm) | Ball girth M, in (cm) |
|---|---|---|
| 4 | 8 5/8 (22.0) | 8 1/16 (20.5) |
| 5 | 9 (22.9) | 8 5/16 (21.2) |
| 6 | 9 5/16 (23.7) | 8 9/16 (21.8) |
| 7 | 9 5/8 (24.5) | 8 13/16 (22.4) |
| 8 | 9 15/16 (25.3) | 9 1/16 (23.1) |
| 9 | 10 1/4 (26.1) | 9 5/16 (23.7) |
| 10 | 10 9/16 (26.9) | 9 9/16 (24.3) |
Jackson cuts its heels one width narrower than the ball, so an M boot sits on a narrower heel. New boots feel firm; leaving the top hooks unlaced for an outing or two lets them settle.
What’s included
A complete pair — SoftSkate 380 boots on mint laces, with the Ultima Mark I blades already mounted. Only guards for walking off the ice need adding.
Part of our Women’s Figure Skates, Girls’ Figure Skates and Recreational Ice Skates collections. In the same line the Classic 200 keeps this blade in a plain boot and the Classic 500 steps up to the Ultima Mark II.
